We have all heard that the moon affects the earths oceans and rivers with its gravitational pull. We also hear how it affects the water contained in the human body. Since the body is about 65% water, we can imagine that the moons influence is significant.
In the lunar diet or the Werewolf diet we use the moons cycles to reconnect and help lose weight.
Moon enthusiasts follow the werewolf/lunar diet to harness the power of the moon.
The main premise is on the full moon and new moon to have a water or juice fast day.
Research indicates that there are number of health benefits to intermittent fasting and thus increasing lifespan. The 5:2 diet incorporates the 2 day a week 500 calorie days, where on the low calorie day you are experiencing an intermittent fast.
There is also the protocol called alternative day fasting, which involves a day of heavy calorie restriction e.g. for women 400 calories and for men about 600 calories a day – that is one meal around lunch time – you could choose to have your one meal in the morning though. So the fast day is your low calorie day. On the alternate day which is the feed day you eat whatever you want.
A trial with overweight patients using this method found that people were able to lose weight with this method and there were drops in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
These trials are showing that there are benefits to limiting your calorie intake on set days – using the principles of the moon you can incorporate lower calorie days in alignment with the cycles of the moon.
Here are the principles of the moon diet:
Consume only liquids during the 24 hours of the full moon or new moon. Make sure you drink plenty of water to maximise the moons effectiveness.
You can drink fresh juice from fruit and vegetables and have tea during this time. No alcohol, milk, coffee.
The waning moon
This is the period after the full moon. During this period make sure you are drinking lots of water to eliminate the toxins and to replace the water that is being pushed by the influence of the moon.
Eat a balanced diet of solid foods during this time
The New moon
The same principles apply to that of the full moon. You consume liquids during this time – try incorporating cleansing teas like dandelion, sage, milk thistle to assist the body in its cleansing process.
During this period you should eat less than usual – stop eating when you feel full, definitely do not overeat – try to have your final meal around 6:00pm.
The diet is based on the theory that the moons gravitational pull will speed up detox and weightloss.
